If you’re reading this post right now, that means that you’ve heard the call. To seek something deeper, to feel a more meaningful connection to your higher self or intuition or God or Universe. It’s all the same, really. You want something more because life as it is isn’t doing it for you anymore. And you’re tired of feeling this way. But you’re also afraid of your spiritual awakening.
Anyone who’s ever found the courage to step on the spiritual path and embrace this sacred side of their existence has felt that way.
Maybe you’ve tried responding to that call. You might have been reading posts just like this one, or even tried meditation, journaling, or other spiritual practices. That’s amazing and I’m so proud of you for taking these little steps forwards! That’s more than most people ever do.
And maybe you’re still hesitant about this new part of your life.
You want to change, you really do.
You want to see what it’s like on the other side. What life would be like if you became the person you’ve always known you were meant to be. How it would feel. Full of purpose, maybe? No need to be questioning your decisions and wondering if you’re just settling on something that ultimately doesn’t serve you in the highest way. It would probably be quite peaceful too, quiet and safe in your mind. Wouldn’t that be nice?
But for some reason you’re not trusting this desire of yours fully. Here are the 3 reasons why you might be hiding from stepping fully on your spiritual path and embracing the journey.
1. You’re afraid of your spiritual awakening because you’re afraid of letting go
It’s scary, isn’t it? All the stories about how, after starting their spiritual journey, people lose their loved ones. Some choose to end their relationships, others let go of friendships, jobs, and other connections or decide to establish much stronger boundaries with their family members.
I’ve experienced that too. I’m not as close to some people in my life as I used to be. I can see more clearly the negative belief systems and damaging mindsets that people bury themselves in. I have better boundaries, and new respect for myself, my energy, and my needs. I won’t allow anyone to affect my energy with their negative bullshit and I have no desire to indulge in mindless gossiping and drama.
I also have more compassion and understanding for the people who desperately need it.
I’ve embraced a new role as a teacher. I’m showing my mom another way and gently guiding her towards changing her mindset about certain things. That’s an honor, to be able to give her that. She’s done such a beautiful job of raising me alone and leading me to become the woman I am today.
Sometimes the roles change like this. That’s the beautiful part.
And yeah, sometimes you’ll find that you have to part ways with a person. Because the relationship is not making you happy anymore. It’s not serving your highest good, your happiness, your light. We want to be around people who encourage us to shine brighter.
And some people just aren’t ready to let us shine. That’s okay.
It’s okay to let them go, because there is a world full of people who are dying to see you shine.
I’m one of them.
So don’t you fucking hold back anymore. This world needs you, your passion, and your light.
2. You’re afraid of saying goodbye to the old version of you
Do you want to know your purpose in life?
Your purpose is to live a happy life. Your purpose is to have fun, laugh, and enjoy your beautiful human experience.
And your purpose is to grow, learn, evolve, and become the best possible version of yourself. Your higher self.
This never ending journey means that as you step into the new version of you, there are habits and patterns of the old you that you need to say goodbye to.
What are the patterns that you need to release? What are the habits and beliefs that don’t serve you anymore?
Here’s what I’m working on as I’m stepping into my new self:
- Honoring my body and taking better care of it.
- Being more visible and speaking my truth unapologetically.
- Being of service and supporting women who are starting their owns spiritual journeys.
You don’t have to do this alone. We are all on the same path, facing the same demons, learning the painful lessons and experiencing unimaginable joy and freedom at the same time.
You are not alone.
3. You’re terrified of the unknown
I’m a recovering fear addict. It’s a habit like anything else. It comes with a major case of overthinking, anxiety, and doubting absolutely everything. It can easily take over your life and stop you from living the life of your deepest dreams and desires.
We are all petrified here, facing the unknown.
What’s life going to look like if you do this?
Who will you be if you take the chance?
What if it’s all a huge mistake?
What if it’s even better than you could ever imagine? What if it all finally feels right? How freeing would it be to step back from hiding, playing small, pretending that this is all just fine?
What if you were lead to the life you have always dreamed of?
And what if you were finally happy, content, fulfilled and free?
You’ll never know until you take that first step.
There’s no reason to be afraid of your spiritual awakening.
